Mark IX Xray Version 2 Bolt-Action Sniper System
Another bolt-action rifle model chambered for the new .333 Scarlet Magnum round, intended to replace the M8 BASS in production and development. Compared to the 7.62x51 as used in the M8, the .333 Scarlet Magnum uses an ultra-grade propellant, producing much greater muzzle velocity and has similar felt recoil, improving accuracy at range. The M9X was reported to get sub-MOA accuracy at 1 500 meters, thus being sufficient for just about any anti-personnel distance. While the .333 Scarlet Magnum + M9X may not be as accurate or powerful as the .408 CheyTac + M200 Intervention, the BASS series' main competitor, the cartridge is lighter and the weapon cheaper.
The weapon has an open bolt, thus being capable of functioning even after submerging the weapon. The dust cover is also the safety, much like in the M8: this time, the cover is on a slide which is operated with the module resembling a charging handle. When the handle is at the back position, the dust cover is in place and shielding the bolt while also enabling safety, as the bolt and trigger cannot be pulled when the cover is in place.
The weapon's barrel is locked by a double-hold mechanism that can be disengaged by pulling hard on the bipod's attachment cylinder. Once the barrel is removed, the bolt assembly can be pulled out and replaced either to fix a broken assembly or switch to another caliber. Adapters can be mounted in the lower receiver to use different calibers, and adapters can only be mounted or dismounted while the barrel lock is disengaged.
